Cannabis Bulletin
December 21, 2022
This bulletin is to advise all retail cannabis store licensees of an amendment to Section 4.2.6 of the Retail Cannabis Store Handbook RCSH).
Effective immediately, the dried cannabis equivalency (i.e., equal to 1 gram of dried cannabis) for cannabis beverages has been increased from 70 grams to 570 grams. This change ensures alignment between AGLC policy and recent legislative changes made to the federal Cannabis Act to increase the amount of cannabis beverages an adult can possess in public for non-medical purposes.
Notably, this amendment:
- Increases the public possession limit for cannabis beverages to a level that is similar to other forms of cannabis, such as solid edible cannabis (e.g. gummies or chocolate). Adults in Canada are now able to possess up to 17.1 litres (equal to 48 cans of 355ml each) of cannabis beverages in public for non-medical purposes. Existing controls that mitigate the risk of overconsumption and accidental consumption, such as child-resistant packaging and limits on the amount of THC per container, remain in place.
The amended RCSH may be accessed on AGLC’s website at aglc.ca. Additional information regarding AGLC’s commitment to a modern regulatory environment that supports consumer choice, innovation and economic growth can be found on AGLC’s website at aglc.ca/modernization.
Please familiarize yourself with the amended policy and ensure all affected staff are notified of the new amendments.
