Get in on the excitement of awards season on Play Alberta

The calendar has turned to a new year, and with that, PlayAlberta.ca continues to add new and exciting betting options. Recent additions to the website include entertainment award betting, coinciding with the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards.

Oppenheimer had a significant night, taking home awards for Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director (Christopher Nolan) and Best Actor – Drama (Cillian Murphy). Bettors on PlayAlberta.ca may have been caught off guard hearing Christopher Nolan’s name called. Twenty seven per cent of bets were on him to win the award, while Greta Gerwig’s Barbie had 38 per cent of bets on the website.

Barbie’s tough night extended into other categories. Despite having an overwhelming majority of Play Alberta bets (66 per cent) to win Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, it was Poor Things that took home the statue. Only eight per cent of bettors thought the Yorgos Lanthimos film would be successful.

“PlayAlberta.ca continues to evolve and offer exciting and sought-after options for players. We’re thrilled to see that expand early in 2024 with the addition of entertainment markets ahead of awards season. Now, bettors in Alberta can make the Golden Globes, Emmy Awards or the Academy Awards as interesting as they desire with these new markets available to them.”
