What is Deal Us In Casino Staff Training?

Deal Us In is a social responsibility training program designed to educate Casino and REC Facility Licensees and their staff on how to recognise the differences between responsible and problem gambling behaviour and appropriately respond to someone who may have a problem with gambling.

There is no charge to get your Deal Us In certification.

What will I learn?

Deal Us In Phase One:

In this program, you will learn:

  • How to do your duty of care and prevent foreseeable harm
  • The importance of working as a team to keep patrons safe
  • How gambling works
  • How to identify healthy, responsible gambling, as well as high-risk gambling and gambling addiction
  • How to respond to players whose gambling beliefs are false, and to players who ask for information or help
  • How to use GameSense and the GameSense Advisors to do your job responsibly
  • Facts about alcohol and intoxication
  • The laws, policies and best practises for dealing with problem customers: minors, intoxicated patrons, Self-Exclusion program registrants and patrons involved in illegal activities

Deal Us In Phase Two:

In this program, you will learn:

  • How to respond appropriately to front-line staff referrals
  • How to conduct patron interventions, and
  • How register players into the AGLC's Self-Exclusion program (for patrons who want to exclude themselves from Alberta casinos and RECs for a specified period of time).

 

 

Who needs to take this program?

Deal Us In certification is mandatory for all full- and part-time registered gaming workers and charity workers. This includes:

  • All games and casino managers;
  • Casino facility licensee representatives;
  • Pit and Count Room supervisors, pit bosses and dealers;
  • Directors and managers of security, security guards, surveillance managers and Monitor Room personnel;
  • Slot managers, supervisors and operators (attendants and cashiers);
  • Bankers, cashiers and chip runners and
  • Cash cage advisors and Count Room staff.

Deal Us In Phase Two certification is mandatory for individuals working full-time or part-time as a registered gaming worker in the following positions:

  • Casino and REC managers, supervisors and
  • Security staff.

Note: Deal Us In Phase One certification is a prerequisite for Deal Us In Phase Two certification. Charity workers do not require Deal Us In Phase Two certification.

When do I have to be certified?

Persons requiring Deal Us In Casino Staff Training certification must be certified within 30 days of their employment start date or before the expiration date on their certificate.

What is the timeframe to complete the program?

Learners are given 30 days from the date and time of registration. You may enter and exit the program, sign in and out of your account, etc. as often as you like within 30 days from the date and time of registration. Your program access ends on the 30th day. After 30 days, you will need to reregister and start the course from the beginning.

Is there an exam and what is the passing grade?

Yes and a minimum score of 80% is required to pass.

How many exam attempts are available?

Five (5) attempts are given with each registration. Reviewing the program topics before retaking the test is recommended.

Is there a cost for the program?

There is no charge.

Need proof of your certification? No problem.

Licensee staff must provide proof of SMART Programs certification at the request of an AGLC Inspector. Proof of certification includes:

  • a printed certificate, or
  • a clear digital image (e.g., screen shot) of the certificate saved on the staff member's mobile device.

Proof of certification can be accessed from your AGLC training account. Print your certificate or save the image to your mobile device.
